2019 – Souvent je regarde le Ciel

Hoe kunnen we leven in het nu en tegelijk denken aan de toekomst? Wat zijn de consequenties van de keuzes die we iedere dag maken? En wat is onze verantwoordelijkheid voor morgen?
Souvent je regarde le ciel bestaat uit een man, een vrouw, en
een 2m. hoge kubus die dient als decor, als circusobject, en als
symbool voor het alledaagse leven. Middels woorden, dans, acrobatiek, muziek en theater onderzoeken de acteurs de relatie tussen het individu en zijn/haar engagement voor de wereld; verkennen zij nieuwe manieren van kijken, van denken, op zoek naar een nieuwe balans.

Over Compagnie Le Grand O (FR.): Compagnie Le Grand O is het resultaat van een prachtige samenwerking tussen een zingende comédienne en een acrobatische danser. Ze kiezen ervoor om met hun spel heel visueel en poëtisch verhalen te brengen. De lichamen, de stemmen, de woorden, alles heeft een betekenis en een waarde. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de compagnie haar maatstaven vasthoudt, zowel op het podium als ernaast. In de realiteit vertaalt dit zich in het feit dat ze een band aan gaan met hun publiek door middel van workshops en lessen, waarbinnen zowel artistieke handelingen als levensvragen aan bod komen. De achtergrond van beide artiesten is eerder speciaal. Beide genoten een universitaire opleiding: Tom volgde een opleiding in de politieke wetenschappen, terwijl Gioia antropologie studeerde. Na hun opleiding gingen ze beiden aan de slag rond circus, mime, komedie en dans. Het gezelschap kan hun show spelen in verschillende talen (Engels, Spaans, Nederlands, Duits of Frans). Opvallend is wel dat de teksten die aan bod komen in de voorstellingen, worden gebracht in zogezegde “bedreigde talen” zoals Bretoens, Griko, Fries of Jiddisch. Net omdat de artiesten zo jong zijn, is de afstand tussen hun show en realiteit erg klein!

Questioning the contradictions of their daily lives, two actors
explore other visions, other thoughts. The actors live in a cube
of 2 meters, one time functioning as décor, the other time as object of use. It symbolizes the space of our daily life. The actors express their doubts, joys, dreams and fears through dance, acrobatics, music and theater. Yet there remains some unsolverd things that they can’t ignore… How to live in the present while being aware of the days to come? They search the right words to talk about the world, environmental issues and us, a specie so small, in front of it all. The cube is an interactive scenography. When the actors transform the way the look at the world and open new perspectives, the cube bows, and by doing so, it opens up a new space in wich they can play.

About Compagnie Le Grand O (FR.): The Company le Grand O is the sensitive encounter between a singer/actress and an acrobatic dancer. They chose to use a scenic visual and poetic performance to bring a story. The bodies, the voices, the words have meaning and commitment, wich leads the company to act like it both on stage and off stage. In reality this leads to a commitment with the people through various courses and workshops in wich artistic practices meet questions about society, it’s issues for today and tomorrow an our role in it’s construction. The personality of the two young artists is surprising, because both have had an university education: Tom had a degree in political science and Gioia is aan anthropologist. With the “well educated heads” the followed a course in circus arts, mime, comedy and dance and they can present their show in Englisch, Spanish, Dutch, German or French. Curiously, the texts presented during the show are in ‘in dangered languages” such as Breton, Griko, Frisian or Yiddish. Because of their young age (25 and 27) the artists establish a close link between their artistic performances and their social commitment.
