2019 – Callings

Als de oceaan ziek was, hoe zou ze huilen? “Callings” is een poëtische hommage aan de sirenen van de zee. Geïnspireerd door de uitdaging van de klimaatswijziging spreekt de voorstelling in transformationele metaforen, gebruik makend van de kracht van het acrobatisch steltenwandelen.
De geest van een zeekapitein en de oer-sirene confronteren de commerciële zeelieden, maken hen bewust dat de zee levendig is. De oceaan is een levend wezen. “Callings” is een acrobatisch spektakel op stelten, 50 minuten
lang, en beweegt zich tussen theater, dans en circus. Het kan op diverse plaatsen gebracht worden: in een zaal of op straat. Carpetbag Brigade is een pioneer in die steltenacrobatie en hun voorstellingen zijn doorweven met dans en fysiek theater, in een voorstelling over de klimaatswijziging en de uitdagingen hierbij.

The Carpetbag Brigade beheersen een unieke theatrale taal in de delicate overlapping van fysiek theater, dans en circus. Groeiende schoonheid, vallend met gratie en het toveren van kortstondige magie in de beweging en actie van hun krachtige lichamen… de artiesten deinen uit en bewegen zoals de zee in de avondschemering. The Carpetbag Brigade brengt een zekere psychische intimiteit, poëtische dialoog en mythische beeldspraak, zowel binnen als in openlucht. De voorstelling komt tot zijn recht in een breed spectrum van plaatsen: theaters, voetbalvelden, parkeergarages, stadsparken, … The Carpetbag Brigade was de gastgroep voor de Tsunami op het Square Festival, was in residentie aan het Universal Forum of the Cultures in Monterrey, Mexico en organiseerde de Bi Cultural Road Show met steun van het National Endowment for the Arts en de Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Ze brachten hun repertoire over heel de wereld.

Inspired by the challenge of climate change it speaks in transformational metaphors using the craft of acrobatic stiltwalking. The ghost of a sea captain and the primal siren of the sea confront the sailors of commerce, seducing them into the awakening that the sea is alive. The ocean is a living being. “Callings” is an acrobatic stilt spectacle 50 minutes in length living in the world between theater, dance and circus. It can be presented in diverse venues proscenium style on stage or open air in the round on the street. Carpetbag Brigade’s pioneering stiltacrobatics are deftly woven with dance and physical theater in a performance inspired by the challenge of climate change.
