2026 – Senescence

Je mag wel ouder worden, maar mag je ook ouder zijn? In de nieuwe voorstelling SENESCENCE van kunstenaar en circusmaker Camiel Corneille zien we een man worstelen met groei en aftakeling. Bewegend in een visueel indrukwekkende installatie en met een onwaarschijnlijke acrobatische lichaamsbeheersing onderzoekt Camiel of vergankelijkheid echt onvermijdelijk is. Een beleving vol kwetsbaarheid, ruwheid en kracht, die het maakbaarheidsideaal tegen het licht houdt.

In SENESCENCE zit het publiek rondom een kinetische installatie die alles weg heeft van Leonardo da Vinci’s wereldberoemde tekening: de Vitruviusman. Met die tekening toonde da Vinci het ideaalbeeld van de mens, maar dan in 1490. Het ouder worden heeft kunstenaars door de eeuwen heen altijd al gefascineerd, maar Camiel laat zijn publiek zien welke impact dat beeld in onze prestatiemaatschappij heeft op ons en op hem. Intiemer wordt het circus bijna niet.

You may grow older, but are you allowed to be older? In the new performance SENESCENCE by artist and circus maker Camiel Corneille, we see a man struggling with growth and decline. Moving in a visually impressive installation and with incredible acrobatic body control, Camiel explores whether transience is truly inevitable. An experience full of vulnerability, rawness, and strength, which examines the ideal of malleability.

In SENESCENCE, the audience sits around a kinetic installation that resembles Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous drawing: the Vitruvian Man. With that drawing, da Vinci showed the ideal image of man, but in 1490. Aging has always fascinated artists throughout the centuries, but Camiel shows his audience the impact that image has on us and on him in our performanceoriented society. The circus could hardly be more intimate.
